Nikita Sigelakis passed away January 26, 2023 at the age of 92 in Sarasota, Florida.
Nikita was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on October 13,1930 to James and Stamatene Sigelakis. He grew up on Staten Island, New York where as a young man he helped his father in the banana distribution business. He graduated from Curtis High School. In 1951, at the age of 21, he joined the Air Force. Nikita served as a Staff Sargent and worked as an aircraft mechanic. After discharge from the Air Force, he settled in Rockaway Beach, New York and married the beautiful Cecelia Apostolides.
Nikita was a great athlete, excelling in many sports. He played baseball and football. He water and snow skied. He loved gymnastics and volleyball, which he enjoyed playing well into his eighties.
Nikita was a beloved father figure to many and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his brother Nicholas (Nico), and sister Agnes. He is survived by his six children Nancy Cockrell, James Sigelakis, George Sigelakis, William Sigelakis, Tina Limber, and Peter Sigelakis, seven grandchildren, Eric, Denielle, Kathy, James, Nikita, Peter, Lewis, and Xanthippe, and five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lila, Bodhi, Rio, and Artemis, nephews Gary and James, who he loved like sons, daughters-in-law Michelle, Beth, and Kathy, sons-in-law Charlie and Sam, and sister-in-law Christina.
