Capt William "Billy " Doll sailed peacefully away to calm waters on June 10, 2024. Born on September 21, 1929 in Sheepshead Bay, Billy would have been 95 this September.
Billy followed in his father's footsteps working on the fishing boats in the Bay and later taking on the family business running the Jet from Pier 9. He was a fisherman's fisherman specializing in wreck and rough bottom fishing.
After serving two hitches in the United States Army he dedicated his life to the family fishing business developing a very successful trade for local fishing. Later he made his longtime mate, Capt Chuck, a full partner.
Billy was married to the water and business. He took wonderful care of his mother and father and looked out for his brothers, nieces and nephews as well as friends. He was a crusty old salt on the outside but a tender marshmallow inside.
His wake will be on Friday, June 14 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at English Brors. Funeral Home located at 2203 Avenue Z at E 22nd St. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 am at St Mark RC Church. In lieu of flowers a donation to St Mark Church, in his name, will be appreciated.
He will be missed but never forgotten, Smooth Sailing Capt. Bill!
